1. Research of Routing Protocol
It is a fundamental principle of network that high network performances rely on appropriate application of route protocol. Route protocols are important components of the computer network because they determine the network resources are used efficiently and network robustness is maintained. Our research approach focuses on how to choose one kind of route protocol that is adapt to a network, how to compare the characteristic of different route protocols such as the difference between OSPF and IS-IS, how to Obtain performance data for the route protocol, and so on. We use OPNET to simulate and analyze these projects and we have obtained many good results.

This project is going on with the development of difference routing protocol. We plan to continue to do with it in this year.

2. Research of Traffic Analysis
In today's rapidly evolving networking environment, increasingly more mission critical traffic is transported over network, so traffic engineering and traffic analysis are the key to achieve mission critical networking. Our applications of OPNET also care the ability to efficiently map traffic onto a network topology model as to get factors of optimizing the utilization of network resources. And we have explored the methods of using OPNET to simulation the MPLS network and importing the MPLS traffic into the OPNET to found traffic model, These tasks can be accomplished by great effort and simulation of OPNET.

We are planning to buy the new license of MPLS and after that,we are going to research it in these 2 years.

3. Research of IP Multicast
IP Multicast routing protocols generally follow one of two basic approaches, depending on the expected distribution of multicast group members throughout the network. OPNET can support the PIM-SM, but commonly IP multicast routing protocols used in all kinds of network include CBT, PIM-DM, DVMRP. Now our research group are interested in developing and implementing different IP Multicast routing protocol for OPNET multicast research, it can help us know more about the essential of application of higher level protocols used with IP Multicast and create new way to develop protocol.

Now we are researching Multicast, perhaps in this year we can obtain some good results about it.

4. Research of Web Service Performance
Internet in China has developed very quickly . People are using Internet and web-based services as a primary means for conducting business. Services such as e-mail have become critical to communication within and across organizations. As reliance on these services increases, so do customers expectations for availability, reliability, and responsiveness of the services. But the current situation of the networking is not satisfying. Customers always complain about the poor performance of the networks. There are three factors affecting the performance of web service: network performance, server processing ability and protocols in use. What we are doing now is to study how these three factors affect the performance of web service and then to find out methods to improve the service performance by changing the three factors.

By now we have done a lot of study on the protocol factor and we are going to pay more attention to study any other factors affected the performance of web service.
